Latvian actress Velta Skurstene dies

One of the most famous Latvian theater, radio, and film actresses Velta Skurstene has passed away aged 91, her daughter Zane Lāce said on November 12.

Skurstene (1930–2022) joined the State Theater Institute in 1951. From 1956 to 1958, she worked at the State Puppet Theater and from 1958 to 1989, at the Youth Theatre. In parallel to her work in the theatre, she participated in various settings and plays on Latvian Television and Latvian Radio, as well as recording plays and fairy tales for children.

Skurstene has played in various popular Latvian films, such as  "Kapteiņa Enriko pulkstenis", "Dāvana vientuļai sievietei", "Meldru mežs", "Un rasas lāses rītausmā", "Džimlai Rūdi rallallā!".
