Almost 50 million euros was paid back to depositors in suspended bank PNB during a little over 24 hours of reimbursement payments, Latvia's financial regulator, the Financial and Capital Market Commission (FKTK) said August 23.

49 million euros was paid out in guaranteed indemnities to almost 10,000 PNB Banka customers from the morning of August 22 until 2 pm on August 23.

The 49 million figure represents 17.6% of the total amount expected to be disbursed, approximately 279 million euros.

As previously reported by LSM, the money is being paid out by another bank, Citadele. PNB has been declared "failing or likely to fail" by the European Central Bank.
