International self-service and automation solution manufacturer Omnic will build a new factory in Liepāja, manufacturing parcel lockers for the European market, reported Labs of Latvia August 28.

The location for the site is still to be decided though, and, "if all goes well, construction could begin this year. Manufacturing could begin at the new factory in 2024," said Labs of Latvia.

Omnic is a research and development business which develops and implements self-service and automation solutions for customers in the logistics, e-commerce, retail and hospitality sectors with offices in the United States, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Latvia.

The Omnic Group central office, which oversees the European market, has been based in Rīga for two years. More than 150 employees work for the group, and the company owns more than 45 patents within Europe and the United States.

"It is still difficult to estimate the exact cost of building the Liepāja factory, but Omnic invested €8 million in a similar factory in Georgia. The Liepāja factory is anticipated to manufacture parcel lockers, self-service checkout machines, solar-powered parcel lockers, refrigerated parcel lockers, and various other self-service and automation solutions," Labs of Latvia said.

The number of new jobs that might be created was not stated.
