The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) were called to the scene on Jelgava's Aviācijas street shortly after 10 a.m. to find a building burning with an open flame.
As the weather is windy and the scene is surrounded by other buildings, as many as four cars and close to 30 firemen are fighting the flames.
There is no danger to locals in the vicinity, who are nevertheless advised to keep their windows shut should they feel a smell of smoke, VUGD rep Viktorija Gribuste told Latvian Radio.
Ugunsgrēka dzēšanas darbos šobrīd iesaistīti ugunsdzēsēji glābēji no VUGD Jelgavas, Olaines, Dobeles daļām, kā arī Elejas un Kalnciema posteņiem, informē @ugunsdzeseji. pic.twitter.com/nEElDK6Qfq
