With the data network available to scientists so far, large amounts of data for genome research had to be sent for several days or even transported by road on external hard drives. It has long made the research process difficult and slow.
Now, a network of data is available to disease research and doctors free of charge, allowing the same information to be sent within a few minutes.
“It may be a secret for many, but there are big centers in Latvia that do gene research. These gene files are really huge. One file can take up to 400 gigabytes. The problem to date was that, the files had to be driven by a car between these points like in the old days, because they could not be transmitted normally. We have now, together with MikroTik, set up a network between high-capacity data transmission centers to make the situation more modern and relevant today. It is our investment and aid in gene research, because the focus of the Latvian centers is both COVID-19 research and the fight against cancer. This is our contribution to this process,” said Ingmārs Pūķis, Vice-President of LMT.
