Local Latvian tourism will get more pricey this year

This summer, Latvian travellers have to take into account the need to plan their time and the prices for services will become a little more expensive, said the president of the association “Rural Traveller” on Latvian Radio April 12.

Foreign tourists are not planning holidays in Latvia this summer. Local tourists, however, are active enough.

The president of the association Asnāte Ziemele recommended that plans are made in good time, as offers are booked ahead.  Similarly, given the increasing prices of goods, there will be a slight increase in the prices of tourism services.

“The owners understand very well that [the visitors] are not loaded enough to rise [prices] an awful lot, but, of course, 10%-15% more expensive – it has to be taken into account,” said Ziemele.

“Rural Traveller” will organize a number of events with the Latvian Investment and Development Agency.

“We, along with the Investment Agency, are making open-door days in the countryside that will take place on June 4. There are 230 rural entrepreneurs who will open their doors and offer all sorts of entertainment and do it either free or at cheap cost,” said Ziemele.

She also said that the highly-popular hiking routes Jūrtaka and Mežtaka were being extended. In July, home restaurants will also open their doors.
