Closing its production plants in Sweden and elsewhere, the food producer “Orkla Group” plans to concentrate the production of cookies, biscuits and wafers in Latvia, Ādaži, Latvian Television reported May 11.

A large factory has already been built. Next year it will start producing crackers, biscuits and wafers known in Sweden and Norway. The factory will provide 300 jobs, and searches for employees are ongoing.

“Orkla Biscuit Production” product and development manager Emīls Kozlinskis told LTV that this was the largest biscuit production factory in the Baltic and in Scandinavia.

The 30-thousand-square-meter big plant will have 13 production lines. The ten-tonne-heavy mixer can prepare 700 kilograms of dough.

The first 50 employees have already traveled to Sweden to learn recipes and the production process.

“These people will be the ones who come back to Latvia. Maintaining knowledge and competence is important and is the foundation of our strategy,“ said Sandra Zālamane, chief of staff at Orkla Biscuit Production.
