During a bilateral meeting at the Ministry of Finance, the ministers discussed the current affairs of the financial sector, including economic reform in Europe and the multi-year budget of the European Union.
"On this visit, I visited a highly innovative country, which at the same time prefers non-bureaucratic, efficient and serious public administration. In my view, this is an extremely attractive model. We talked today about the general political situation and, in particular, about the security situation, which has completely changed after Russia's terrible and unprovoked attack on Ukraine, in violation of international law," said Lindner.

"Both our countries support the Ukrainian people. Ukraine must be supported in its efforts to defend itself. This is a big challenge for the international community. I am sure that Ukraine is not only defending itself, but also the peace and freedom of Europe. As finance ministers, we are also tasked with improving our own military capabilities. I assured my colleague that Germany will fulfill NATO's 2% goal," said the German Finance Minister, according to an account of the meeting from the Latvian Finance Ministry.
