Producer prices in April down 5% in Latvia

Data published May 23 by the Central Statistical Bureau show that in April 2024, compared to April 2023, the level of producer prices in the Latvian industry decreased by 5.0%.

The level of prices of products sold on the domestic market reduced by 8.4 %, and prices of exported products by 1.5 %. Prices of products exported to euro-area countries decreased by 2.6 % and of products exported to non-euro area countries by 0.7 %.

Price drops in heat supply, gas supply, and manufacture of electricity, as well as the manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork (except furniture), had a downward impact on the level of producer prices during the year.

In April 2024, compared to March, the level of producer prices in the Latvian industry increased by 0.3 %. Prices of products sold on the domestic market fell by 0.2 %, but prices of exported products grew by 0.7 %. Prices of products exported to euro-area countries increased by 0.6 % and prices of products exported to non-euro area countries – by 0.8 %.

The price rise in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork (except furniture) had an upward impact on the overall level of producer prices during the month. Trade and production of electricity, as well as gas supply had a downward impact.
