Annual inflation negative in January

Prices dipped in January 2015 compared with January 2014, latest official data showed Wednesday. 

According to the latest data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB), compared to January 2014 the average consumer price level in January 2015 decreased by 0.4%. 

Prices of goods decreased by 1.3%, while prices of services grew by 2.1%.

Compared to the previous 12 months, the average consumer price level over the last 12 months increased by 0.6%.

The average price level of food in January 2015 as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year decreased by 2.6%. 

Compared to the previous month, consumer prices in January 2015 grew by 0.1%. Prices of goods increased by 0.1%, while prices of services declined by 0.1%.

The greatest pressure on consumer price changes in January was put by growth in prices of goods and services related to housing.

Prices of food declined by 0.2%, mainly due to sales campaigns for meat and meat products (-0.9%).

Affected by seasonal discounts and sales, prices of clothing dropped by 7.9%, footwear by 4.5%.

However, due to liberalization of the electricity market, electricity prices in January increased on average by 27.6%.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket in 2015 contains 521 different goods and services. Approximately two thousand trade and services outlets are surveyed with about 20 thousand individual prices collected each month.
