E-signature user numbers sharply up during pandemic

Take note – story published 3 years ago

Last year saw a very rapid increase in the use of all digital platforms, including the e-signature (eParaksts), Chairman of the Board of Latvian State Radio and Television Centre (LVRTC) Edmunds Belskis told Latvian Television February 15.

The e-signature has two functions: verification of identity, and signing.

"In identity verification, we see an increase of more than 100%. Similarly, with the signature, we saw it used more than 9.5 million times by residents, organizations, last year. We calculated it meant the signing of 26,000 documents in  one day. We look at how much it might look if we did it all on paper, how many trees and nature we have saved together," said the chair of the LVRTC.

The most popular sites that citizens use to identify themselves are those available through “latvija.lv”. The second place is traditionally held by the State Revenue Service (VID).

Riga Technical University is in the third place and thus a new sector – students and studies – has entered this service, explained  Beļskis.

He said that since 2018, e-signature service has grown especially in the private sector. More of these services are used by entrepreneurs as well as by residents.
