Gas consumption in rapid decline in Latvia

The amount of natural gas consumed in Latvia has decreased by 34.5% in seven months this year, according to data published by the Central Statistical Bureau on August 29.

In total, 5,056 terawatt hours (TWh) of natural gas were consumed in Latvia during the seven months of 2022.

The largest percentage reduction compared to last year's corresponding month was recorded in July, when natural gas consumption decreased by 66.8% or three times and amounted to 201,702 megawatt hours (MWh).

In June, too, the consumption decreased more than twice – by 58.1%, or 2.4 times less than in June 2021.

In May, a 32.6% decrease in natural gas consumption was recorded, 21.2% in April, and a 30% decrease was recorded in March, 42.3% in February, and 20.8% in January.

Last year, total natural gas consumption in Latvia amounted to 12,707 TWh, with 7,725 TWh in the first seven months.
