On September 18 Latvia's first Hilton brand hotel was opened in Old Rīga, the chain's representatives told the press.

A total of €13.5m was invested into the hotel. It will be managed by the Apex Alliance Hotel Management company with tourism expert Lauris Gedrovičs named head manager.

"Hilton's entry into the Latvian market is a huge event not only for us as a team but for the entire industry. It is expected that about 100 million of the chain's clients will become aware about Rīga as a destination, substantially increasing the number of tourists coming to the country," said Gedrovičs.

Meanwhile Apex Alliance Hotel Management boss Gerhard Erasmus said that the Hilton hotel is to be expanded from the current 100 rooms to 175 with the total investment reaching €23m.

It is expected other international hotel brands will be introduced in Rīga in the future, said Erasmus.
