Home use of old liquid gas tanks extended

Take note – story published 9 years ago

The Cabinet ruled to extend the deadline to switch-out existing gas storage solutions for households still using the old red-painted liquefied petroleum gas cylinders, which are no longer in compliance with current EU safety requirements, until the end of 2017.

To do so required amending a packet of regulations applying to the use, transport and disposal of the gas cylinders, used by about 35% of households in Latvia, particularly heavily among low-income residents.

Currently used cylinders not meeting EU standards will be required to undergo inspection by September 30 of this year to be deemed safe to use until the extended deadline for their final decommissioning on December 31, 2017.
