Hotel guest numbers up slightly in March in Latvia

According to data published May 14 by the Central Statistical Bureau, in March 2021 the number of foreign and resident visitors comprised 48.2 thousand, which is 39.4% less than in March 2020 and 6.7% more than in February this year. 

As compared to March of the previous year, the number of nights spent by visitors has reduced by 45.1 % and comprised 96.1 thousand nights.

In March 2021, 7.3 thousand foreign visitors were hosted at tourist accommodation establishments, which is 83.7 % less than in March 2020. The number of nights spent by non-residents has reduced by 82.6 % and comprised 17.4 thousand. In turn, the number of Latvian visitors hosted, compared to March 2020, rose by 16.7 % and comprised 41 thousand. The number of nights spent by residents has grown by 4.7 % and comprised 78.7 thousand.

In the 1st quarter of 2021 the number of foreign and resident visitors in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments comprised 131.2 thousand, which is 67.2 % less than in the 1st quarter of 2020. As compared to the 1st quarter of the previous year, the number of nights spent by visitors has reduced by 68 % and comprised 260.8 thousand nights. Visitors spent an average of 2 nights at tourist accommodation establishments.

Out of foreign visitors 34.1 % or 7.7 thousand came from neighbouring countries – Russia (12 %), Estonia (9.1 %), Lithuania (8.6 %) and Belarus (4.4 %).
