Inflation stands at 0.5% in April

Latvia's rate of inflation picked up by a modest amount in April to stand at 0.5% year-on-year, the national statistics office said Tuesday.

Compared to April 2014 the average consumer price level in April 2015 grew by 0.5%. Prices of goods decreased by 0.4%, while prices of services grew by 2.9%.

March's equivalent figure was 0.4%.

Compared to the previous 12 months, the average consumer price level over the last 12 months increased by the same figure, 0.5%.

That was also the same figure recorded in March, suggesting a good deal of price stability.

Compared to the previous month, consumer prices in April 2015 grew by slightly more: 0.6%. Prices of goods increased by 0.7%, and prices of services by 0.2%

"The greatest pressure on the average level of consumer prices in April 2015, as compared to April 2014, was put by increase in prices of goods and services related to housing, hotel and restaurant services, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, health care, as well as by drop in prices of transport goods and services, food and non-alcoholic beverages," said the Central Statistics Office.
