Latvian Post to offer storage services to e-commerce suppliers

Take note – story published 3 years ago

As the volume of e-commerce shipments increases and the proportion of large-sized shipments and cargo increases significantly, Latvian Post (LP) has started using additional premises and will offer storage services, LP said in a release April 19.

Since e-commerce is more active in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of large-scale shipments has increased significantly, for which the capacity of the existing shipment processing and sorting complex was no longer sufficient to serve effectively. In parallel to the increase in the number of e-commerce shipments, in recent months there has also been a double increase in activity in the freight supply segment of the Latvian Post, which also shows an increase in the proportion of heavy goods.

In order to ensure the rapid and efficient handling of these shipments, as well as to be able to increase the handling of these types of shipments and cargo flows in the company, LP has started using additional warehouses in the area of Riga airport in 1400 square meters.

New spaces are intended to be used in addition to storage services, as e-commerce customers have an increasing tendency to choose partners that provide both processing and delivery and storage services. Therefore, the LP plans include the development and offering this service to different market participants.
