The StartUp Europe Awards Latvia 2016 (SEUA Latvia 2016) have started with high tech companies invited to apply for an innovation and competitiveness award, Latvia's award manager Mareks Matisons told LSM.

The award is a joint project between the Latvian Startup association, the Latvian Public Relations Association and TechHub Riga / TechChill.

It aims to "give recognition to entrepreneurs who were extremely successful promoting Latvian startups by being innovative and competitive during 2016".

So far startups based in Latvia are invited to register (applications are open from January 19 to January 26) for the competition round.

The competition involves an online nomination phase, after which the participants will be scrutinized by a jury. It is to conclude with the award presentation on the conference stage during the Baltic startup get-together TechChill in Riga on February 10.

Startups are sought in ten categories – Creative, Energy, Fintech, Green, Health, ICT, Smart Cities, Social, Tourism and Water.

The idea behind the StartUp Europe Awards is simple: to discover and reward the best startups in European startup ecosystem today, starting from local and national level.

Jury members are representatives of startup community, investor community, as well PR – in order to cover and provide expertise on all most crucial operational aspects of successful startup companies.

The awards will have MEP Inese Vaidere (Unity) as a Startup Europe Awards ambassador.
