High-profile Economics Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola was in the US Wednesday on a mission to develop economic ties between Latvia and the US.

On the visit, which continues until 17 July, Reizniece-Ozola will meet with high-level US officials and energy industry representatives to discuss "substantial energy issues", including the planned European Energy Union, domestic gas market liberalization from 2017 and the diversification of gas supplies, with Latvia kee to reduce its almost total dependence on Russian gas supplies - for obvious reasons.

Meetings are scheduled with officials including US Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and State Department special envoy for energy Amos J. Hochstein.

Ministerial meetings with Republican Party Congressmen Ted Poe, John Shimkus and Senator Anthony John Barrasso are also on the agenda as well as participation in think tank discussions and energy companies including Cheniers, Delfin LNG, Magnolia, Texas LNG, Freeport LNG and Excelerate Energy in Houston, as well as the first US LNG export terminal at Sabine Pass in Louisiana.

In the first half of 2015 total Latvian trade turnover with the United States amounted to €51.1 million.EUR, which is 33% more than the corresponding period of 2014.
