Retail trade turnover grew by 1.4% in November in Latvia

Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) published December 29 by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to November 2019, in November 2020 total retail trade turnover rose by 1.4%. 

Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 2.9%. Retail trade in non-food products (except automotive fuel) decreased by 3.8%, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – increased by 13.3%.

As compared to November 2019, the most notable turnover growth was registered in retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialized stores (of 40.3 %)1 and retail trade in pharmaceutical and medical goods (5.2 ). Most significant turnover drop was registered in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 27.4%) and retail sale in stalls or markets (26.0%) and retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialized stores (7.1%).

Total retail trade turnover at current prices fell by 0.9% (not taking into account the calendar influence).

Compared to October, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in November 2020 fell by 1.9 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products declined by 2.1 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) decreased by 3.2 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – increased by 1.6%.

Compared to the previous month, the most notable turnover rise was recorded in retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialized stores (of 20.6%) and information and communication equipment in specialized stores (10.3%). The largest turnover drop was registered in clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 21.2%), pharmaceutical and medical goods (5.6%) cosmetics and toiletries (4.9%).

Compared to October, in November 2020 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) decreased by 6.7%.
