The number of tourists visiting Latvia continues to increase, despite a vertiginous drop in the number of visitors coming from Russia, official statistics published Friday by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB).

In the 2nd quarter of 2015 there were 411.=,700 foreign visitors in Latvian accommodation establishments, which is 4.7% more than in the 2nd quarter of 2014.

However the number of visitors from Russia reduced by 37.0%.

The change saw Germans overtake Russians in providing the greatest number of foreign visitors to the country, with more than 55,000 Germans making the trip compared to around 48,000 Russians.

Estonians and Lithuanians were in third and fourth places, each country providing more than 30,000 visitors during the second quarter.

They were followed in the rankings by Finland, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Poland and France.
