The registered unemployment level in Latvia in April this year decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 8.8 percent of the economically active population, according to the State Employment Agency.
At the end of April this year, there were 82,268 people registered with the State Employment Agency as unemployed compared to 85,414 registered jobless at the end of March, dropping by 3,146 people.
Riga Region had the lowest unemployment level in late April this year at 5.6 percent, while Latgale province in eastern Latvia had the highest rate at 18.8 percent.
Unemployment in Kurzeme province in the west was 10.8 percent, Vidzeme in north-eastern Latvia had a jobless rate of 9.5 percent and in Zemgale in south it was 8.8 percent.
Among the Latvian cities, Riga had the lowest unemployment rate at 5.3 percent, followed by Jurmala with 6.8 percent and Valmiera with 6.1 percent. The highest unemployment rate was registered in Rezekne in eastern Latvia at 16.8 percent.
In April 6,707 registered jobless people found jobs, while the State Employment Agency had registered 6,116 vacancies.
