Actual unemployment rate in Latvia 9.8%, registered 8.6% in June

Data of the Labor Force Survey conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in June 2020 actual unemployment rate comprised 9.8 %, which is 0.2 percentage points more than in May, CSB reported July 17

Unemployment rate increase may be observed also when comparing the data to the June of the previous year – of 3.5 percentage points in actual unemployment rate and of 2.6 percentage points in registered unemployment rate.

In June 2020 there were 95.2 thousand unemployed people in Latvia, which is 1.7 thousand more than in May and 34.4 thousand more than in the respective period of the previous year. During the last 4 months since the declaration of emergency situation, compared to the actual monthly unemployment data of February 2020, the number of unemployed has increased by 24.2 thousand.

Registered and actual unemployment rate is calculated based on the State Employment Agency data and results of the Labor Force Survey conducted by the CSB.
