Actual unemployment rate was 8.3 % in December in Latvia

Data published January 20 by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in December 2020 actual unemployment rate comprised 8.3 %.

This is 0.4 percentage points more than in November.

 Unemployment rate registered by the State Employment Agency (NVA) accounted for 7.7 % - an increase of 0.3 percentage points, compared to November. Unemployment rate increase may be observed when comparing the data to the December of the previous year – of 1.7 percentage points in actual unemployment rate and 1.5 percentage points in registered unemployment rate.

In December 2020 there were 80.5 thousand unemployed in Latvia, which is 3.9 thousand more than in November and 16.8 thousand more than in the respective period of the previous year. During the last 10 months since the first declaration of emergency, compared to the actual monthly unemployment data of February 2020, the number of unemployed has increased by 8.9 thousand.
