Unemployment rate at 6.5% in July in Latvia

Results of the Labour Force Survey published on August 18 by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (CSB) show that in July 2022 Latvian actual unemployment rate constituted 6.5 %, and compared to June it has increased by 0.1 percentage points.

Unemployment rate among females grew by 0.2 percentage points (to 4.6 %) and among males by 0.1 percentage points (reaching 8.3 %).

The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) accounted for 6.0 %, and since June it has gone up by 0.1 percentage points. Compared to the July of the year before, both the actual and the registered unemployment rate has gone down by 1.1 percentage points.

In July 2022 there were 61.6 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia (21.6 thousand females and 40.0 thousand males), which is 0.4 thousand more than in June and 9.9 thousand fewer than in the corresponding period a year ago. Over the month the number of unemployed males reduced by 0.3 thousand and of unemployed females grew by 0.8 thousand.

The registered unemployment rate in the SEA is calculated using data on registered unemployed persons held by the Agency and data on active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age provided by the CSB. The actual unemployment rate is estimated based on not adjusted monthly survey results.
