Historic bridge over Pelīte River restored near Jēkabpils

In Jēkabpils municipality, from the village of Sala to Jēkabpils, along the regional road P76, a pedestrian and bicycle pavement has been built, as well as the historic bridge over the Pelīte has been restored, said State LLC Latvian State Roads on October 3.

The construction works were carried out by SIA "Ošukalns" for EUR 1.57 million.

Construction works started in mid-May. A four-kilometre-long and 2.5 metre-wide combined pedestrian and cycling road with asphalt pavement was built, connecting it to the existing infrastructure in Jēkabpils and the village of Sala. New  lighting, drainage and ditches have been built along the entire stretch.

Mārtiņš Lazdovskis, Chairman of the Latvian State Roads Board, noted that the Pelīte Bridge was restored to its historical appearance, preserving its industrial heritage.

Before the reconstruction, the stone walls of the bridge had partially collapsed, but after assessing its technical condition, load-bearing capacity and other parameters, as well as architectural considerations and the history of the structure, it was decided to rebuild the bridge.

The project was financed from the national budget. The construction supervision was provided by SIA Teede Insenerid, the project author is AS Ceļuprojekts.
