Bridge closed in Rīga due to possible hazard

Due to possible hazards, transport and pedestrian traffic will be closed at night on Friday, April 5 in Rīga, Torņakalns district, on the railway overpass on Altonavas Street between Tēriņu and Ojāra Vācieša Street, Riga City Council said April 4.

Public transport movement will be diverted. The decision on the further operation of the bridge will be taken after an in-depth expert examination has been carried out.

A possible dangerous deformation has been detected during the inspection of the bridge built in 1910. Given that there is significant traffic flow over the bridge, buses are also running and the railway below creates additional vibrations, it has been decided to close the movement over the bridge for now.

The bridge is on the planned Rail Baltica route, during which the outdated overpass was due to be demolished.

Changes will be made to route 25, 55, and 56 bus service as depicted in the map provided by Rīgas Satiksme below.
