In the next five years, just 5% of Latvian drivers are planning to make an electric car purchase, with another 15% considering such a buy later than five years' time.
Although drivers agree that an electric car is an expensive choice, most would prefer a new one rather than a used, according to a survey of 3,000 people in the Baltic states conducted by If Insurance.
Among the Baltic states, Estonia is the most active for people planning the purchase of electric cars in the next five years drivers (10%), followed by Lithuania (9%) and then Latvia (5%).
On the other hand, more than a third of Lithuanian drivers are sure that they will buy an electric car in five years, while less than a fifth of drivers in Estonia and Latvia plan to do so.
The survey data show that currently Latvian drivers are not in a hurry to make an electric car purchase due to its high price. However, around half of Latvian drivers (48%) declare themselves ready to buy a new electric car in principle.
Lithuania, on the other hand, stands out in comparison to the two neighboring countries as drivers there say they would prefer to buy a used rather than a new electric car.
