Briškens said that not all electric trains supplied were running and repairs continue for six or seven trains. He added that, as a result, significant contractual penalties for the manufacturer also accumulate.
The manufacturer Škoda Vagonka has been given the task of making "95% of trains available within two months".
At the same time, the minister said solutions were in place to minimize the recurrence of incidents by shortening response times.
“If we look at what happened on January 2 in Garciems, where passengers had to wait three hours... There is currently a system in place so that the wait does not last longer than a maximum of an hour and a half in these circumstances,” Briškens told LTV.
The response system involves swifter communication between Latvian Railways and the passenger carrier Vivi. It hasn't yet been tested.
