Rīga City Council on Wednesday, October 18, supported the donation of ten 'Rīgas Satiksme' public transport buses to the municipality of Chernihiv, the municipality said in a statement.

Rīga has so far donated 21 Rīgas Satiksme buses to support Ukraine, giving them to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv filled with donations from Rīga residents.

The first 11 vehicles, with 50 tons of humanitarian aid donated by Riga residents, were sent to Kyiv at the end of April 2022. Rīga also sent 10 buses and 50 tons of donations to Kyiv in January this year.

The Solaris Urbino buses will be donated to the Chernihiv municipal utility company Chernihiv Trolley Bus Authority. The buses produced in 2001 are no longer in use in Latvia.

Riga Vice-Mayor Edvards Ratnieks (National Alliance) said that this time buses will not be in as good a condition as those previously sent.

In preparation for the departure of the buses to Chernihiv, Rīga residents will again be invited to participate in the donation campaign.

It is planned that, once the formalities have been completed, buses may be sent to Ukraine by the end of the year.
