New cycling paths around Rīga coming in next few years

The City Development Committee of the Rīga City Council on Monday, May 22, is planning to view a project which foresees building 16 kilometers of cycling paths in two years, Latvian Radio reported.

It is planned to develop cycling paths from Rīga toward Babīte, Piņķi, Ulbroka, and Ķekava.

According to current estimates, the work will cost more than €25 million, of which the recovery and resilience fund is expected to provide €21 million.

“We have to complete this infrastructure by 2026. Accordingly, construction should take place in 2024, 2025,” said the head of the committee, Inese Andersone (New Unity).

“This is one of the most ambitious projects, connecting the Rīga metropolitan area to the neighborhoods of the vicinity,” she added.
