The City Council is working on expanding the parking zones for micro-mobility tools and promises to mark out new zones in places where leaving vehicles so far caused inconvenience to pedestrians and other road users.
This spring, Riga adopted new rules for the use of shared (rental) vehicles, which include both speed limits and special zones for parking micro-mobility tools. From May 1, shared electric scooters and bicycles in Old Town will only be allowed to park in specially designated areas, which means that the entire Old Town will be a no-parking zone. From June 1, the zone will be extended to Elizabetes Street and will be gradually introduced throughout the entire territory of the historic center of Riga.
Improperly parked vehicles will have to be moved by the service provider within three hours. This will be controlled by the Riga Municipal Police.
