Egg-spect police on roads over Easter holidays

During the Easter holidays, the State Police will intensify the monitoring of public order and road safety, said Juris Jančevskis, Chief of the Police Response Department, in an interview on the Latvian Television program "Morning panorama" on March 28.

He said road raids were planned for all Easter holidays - from Friday, March 29, to Monday, April 1, with as many police officers as possible.

"We will target drivers who have sat behind the wheel under the influence of intoxicating substances or alcoholic beverages. There will be mass raids, mass checks," the police spokesman said.

Checks will be carried out on both national and local roads.

"Drivers have to count on temporary traffic restrictions due to the checks, during which all drivers will be stopped and checked on a particular stretch," the police spokesman said.

He said drivers of bicycles and electric scooters would also be checked for driving under the influence of intoxicants.
