"Ministers agreed that the fifth package of sanctions proposed by the European Commission against Russia and Belarus, which also includes restrictions in the field of port and land transport, should be seen as a step forward, and expressed hope that the EU Member States would be able to reach an agreement this week.
"However, during the meeting, the participants agreed to prepare proposals for regional restrictions if no agreement is reached at the EU level.
"At the meeting, the ministers expressed their conviction that sanctions should be effective, targeted and that the best results could be achieved by a pan-European joint response to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine," the release said.
Latvian Minister of Transport Tālis Linkaits, Polish Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk, Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skodis and Deputy State Secretary of the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure Kaupo Laanerand attended the meeting.
