There are around 530 registered electric vehicles in Latvia at present.
Rolands Rumba, a spokesman for the Road Safety Directorate, hopes that the spread of EV charging stations will encourage people to purchase environmentally friendly cars.
"Currently, there are 70 electric vehicle charging stations operating on Latvian roads, and by the end of 2021, it is expected that an overall of 150 stations will be in operation on our roads. Electric vehicles have many benefits and advantages. For example, the first-time registration of electric cars in the CSDD is free of charge and electric cars are not subject to vehicle operating tax, and there's also a company tax rate on light vehicles. Electric vehicles are permitted to travel along public transport lanes, parking for free in Rīga and Liepāja parking lots, and entering Jūrmala without a fee. We encourage people to visit “e-mobi.lv” where they can quickly and easily find locations of the closest EV recharging points, besides other useful information about the charging of electric vehicles,” said Rumba.
