Nearly 500 people removed from public transport for not wearing a mask in March

Take note – story published 3 years ago

During the first two weeks of March, Rīga municipal ticket inspectors, alongside municipal police, carried out nearly 1,200 checks on public transport routes in the Latvian capital and made nearly 500 people get off buses, trams and trolleybuses as a result, according to information from Rīgas satiksme (Riga's transport).

In total nearly 12,000 ticket inspection checks were carried out on public transport routes, with around one in ten of that number involving municipal police.

Among the most frequent reactions given by those not complying with the regulations were: "I forgot to put it on", "I'm not wearing one, it's all *******!" and "It's hard to breathe with a mask, so I put it just over my mouth," none of which are likely to cut much ice.
