On Friday, October 14, Rīga City Council announced the newly built cycling path from the center to Ziepniekkalns completed.

Construction of the bike path was launched last autumn. The project consists of a path separated from pedestrians and road traffic, improvements have been made to the traffic organization, as well as approximately 400 new shrubs have been planted. The overall length of the path is six kilometers.

Jobs were carried out by the road construction company Binders.

“The new cycling path will connect the center and one of the largest neighborhoods of Rīga – Ziepniekkalns, providing residents with the possibility to quickly and easily reach places such as the University of Latvia Academic Center, National Library, or the embankment,” said Olafs Pulks, head of the Riga City Council Transport and Transport Committee.

“In Rīga, the construction season is continuing actively in the field of traffic infrastructure. Despite the substantial increase in construction costs caused by the war in Ukraine, we have been able to successfully launch and complete another important infrastructure facility, which will provide a high-quality cycling connection and better micromobility for residents of neighboring areas,“ said Riga City Council Vice-President for Transport Infrastructure and Development Vilnis Ķirsis.
