The company was planning to replace the vehicles this year and it was decided that as they were still in reasonable condition they might find useful employment in the Ukrainian capital as the city gets its infrastructure back in shape after the Russian attack was repelled.

The buses to Kyiv will not be sent empty. They are filled with a shipment of medicines, bandages and medical materials prepared by Riga 1st Hospital, as well as other donations from the public in Rīga, according to Andris Lubāns, a member of the board of the company "Rīgas satiksme".
