One bicycle lane to remain on Čaka Street

Take note – story published 2 years ago

As of September 1, there will be only one bicycle lane on Čaka Street, the Transport Committee of the Rīga City Council decided Monday, July 12.

The lane will be maintained in the direction toward the center, while there will be no bicycle lane in the other direction. Instead, a public transport lane will be installed.

At the same time, the Transport Department should develop a solution by 1 April 2022 to transform Barona Street into a pedestrian and cycling street, while giving the tram priority of movement.

Experimental bike lanes have been on Čaka Street for nearly a year, thereby narrowing the street. The aim of the experiment was to perform traffic movement measurements to see if there were permanent cyclist tracks to be installed. As reported by LSM, most cyclists liked the lanes, whereas motorists were not as excited.
