Covid-19 pandemic and related movement restrictions determined the significant drop by all modes of transport.
During the 1st quarter of 2021, the number of passengers carried by land passenger transport comprised 24.9 million passengers, which is 51.8 % less than in the first quarter of 2020.
The number of passengers carried by rail transport comprised 1.9 million, a drop of 48.7 %. Number of passengers carried by national transport reduced by 48.5 %, but the number of passengers carried by international transport reduced – by 97.4 %.
14.3 million passengers were carried by regular bus traffic lines, which is 51 % less than a year ago. Number of passengers carried in national lines reduced by 50.9 %, but the number of passengers carried in international lines reduced – by 78.1 %.
The number of passengers carried by trolleybuses comprised 4.9 million passengers, a drop of 52 %, but by trams – 3.8 million passengers, a fall of 55.7 %.

In the 1st quarter of 2021, 44.2 thousand passengers arrived at and departed from Latvian ports, which is 72.6 % less than in the 1st quarter of 2020. At Riga Passenger Terminal ferry traffic was closed, at Ventspils port passenger turnover comprised 36.6 thousand passengers, which is 16.3 % less, but at Liepāja port – 7.6 thousand passengers, 4 % more than a year ago.
In the 1st quarter of 2021 the number of passengers arrived at and departed from the Riga International Airport comprised 107.7 thousand, which is 91.4 % less than in the 1st quarter of 2020.
