Public transport fill increased to 80% in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

The maximum fill of passengers in public transport has been increased to 80% in place of the previous 65% of the total capacity, Transport Minister Tālis Linkaits said on Twitter June 22.

The changes to the regulation take effect immediately.

The amendments to the rules adopted last week provided for a gradual increase in passenger fill, in line with the plan developed by the Ministry of Health (the so-called traffic light principle).

Accordingly, if the 14-day cumulative Covid-19 incidence rate per 100 000 inhabitants does not exceed 100 new cases, the capacity was expected to be increased to 80%. Tuesday, the cumulative incidence dipped below 100 for the first time since October.

The condition that the number of passengers in public transport must not exceed 65% was valid from June 16, while the requirement of 50% was valid from December 7 to June 15 last year.
