Rail Baltica project implementation will center in RB Rail

Take note – story published 3 years ago

The Latvian government has supported the Transport Ministry's intention to focus the implementation functions of the Rail Baltica project on the three Baltic States joint venture RB Rail. This will ensure a faster, better quality and more cost-effective project in Latvia, the Ministry said September 8.

The new Rail Baltica project implementation model predicts that one company – the Baltic States joint venture RB Rail – will be responsible for design and construction work in Latvia. The concentration of design and construction functions within the same company will ensure a clear division of responsibility, more effective coordination and faster implementation of the project.

It is planned to implement the model by the end of 2020, the Transport Ministry said.

Currently, the implementation of the planning and construction activities of the Rīga Central Station and the Riga International Airport has been delegated to European Railway Lines. In future, these obligations will be delegated to the RB Rail, maintaining all the contractual relationships assumed and continuing all procurements underway.

The Ministry noted that Rail Baltica is a cross-border project, so changes to the Latvian project implementation model should be aligned with Estonia and Lithuania.
