Vitālijs Reinbahs will return in the position of the Riga City Council’s Transport Department director, and Emils Jakrins will leave the post of the acting director, said the department’s spokes woman Una Ahuna-Ozola.

She said that the rotation has been organized by Riga Vice Mayor Vadims Baraņņiks  (Harmony).

Reinbahs told LETA that after being away from the department for three years, first, he has to get acquainted with the present situation. “It will not take much time,” said Reinbahs.

He said that his first priorities will be organization of traffic on bridges, repair of potholes on Riga streets and the air quality in Riga. “Undoubtedly, the number one priority is Deglava bridge in Riga and everything possible will be done to renew safe traffic on the bridge as soon as possible,” he said, adding that it is too early to discuss possible solutions.

As reported, the case on Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs' (Harmony) decree suspending Reinbahs as the head of the Riga City Council's Transport Department was dismissed by the Supreme Court on March 12.

In August 2016, Ušakovs said that he had no confidence in Reinbahs but could not dismiss him as the move was strongly opposed by the trade union. Ušakovs suspended Reinbahs from his job that same month and appointed Jakrins as acting head of the Riga City Council's Transport Department.
