Rīga airport passenger turnover down almost 90% in October

In October this year, compared to October last year, the number of passengers serviced at Rīga International Airport decreased by 87.2%, according to operational data on the airport's performance published November 4.

In October, 90 500 passengers were serviced at the airport – over 600 000 passengers fewer than in October last year, the airport said.

The majority, or 60.1% of passengers served in October, was transported by the national airline airBaltic, 19.9% by the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair, while 6.5% by the Hungarian low-cost carrier WizzAir.

In total, 1.9 million passengers were serviced at Riga airport in ten months of this year, 71.5% fewer than a year earlier.

Last year, the number of airport passengers already exceeded 6.5 million at that time.

The number of flights operated at Riga airport also decreased by 57.4% – in the ten months of 2020, 31 500 aircraft landed at the airport. In ten months, more than 18 thousand tons of aviation cargo were handled at Riga airport.

This week, the airport offers flights to 35 destinations in 31 cities. The network of airport routes changes weekly depending on the list of indicators published by the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).
