Rīga Transport tests hydrogen-powered bus

Take note – story published 3 years ago

Until February 13, public transportation company Rīgas Satiksme will test a hydrogen-powered bus by manuacturer Solaris Bus & Coach, the company said February 6.

The bus will carry out passenger services on route no. 55, Abrenes iela - Jaunmārupe.

Since the beginning of 2020, a hydrogen station has been operating in Riga, where hydrogen is provided for 10 trolley buses, but the station does not operate with the maximum possible capacity. The results of the testing of the hydrogen-powered bus will allow the identification of the station capacity, as well as the extent to which a hydrogen-powered bus can operate in the conditions of the city, as well as its consumption. The testing has been deliberately planned in winter conditions, when the operation is more complicated than in summer.

The hydrogen-powered bus is white and will visually differ from the other Rīgas Satiksme buses, but will operate like all other transportation.
