A court has decided to return the Russian television channels “TNT Comedy” (THT–Комеди), “TNT4 International”, “Friday International” (Пятница), “KHL TV Channel” and “TNT Music” to the Latvian information space, according to a tweet by Ivars Āboliņš, chair of the National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) on Friday.

Āboliņš said that NEPLP will appeal this court decision.

The agency LETA found that the decision of NEPLP to block these Russian television channels was challenged by a distributor, Global Media, at the Administrative District Court.

The decision to block these entertainment channels was taken by NEPLP in early March because a company affiliated with the Russian company Gazprom Media Holding is on the sanctions list of the U.S. Treasury's Office for Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

According to the court, the fact that Gazprombank directly and indirectly owned programs operating in the information room of Latvia does not threaten the information space of Latvia.

“The decision of the NEPLP will be appealed because, unfortunately, the court has not understood the substance and justification of the decision,” wrote Āboliņš on Twitter.
