Foreign Ambassadors venture out of Rīga for annual awayday

On 20 September 2023, the resident and non-resident heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Latvia were treated to their annual tour which this year visited the regions of Vidzeme and Sēlija.

Together with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, foreign diplomats explored the towns of Ogre, Ķegums, Lielvārde un Jēkabpils to gain an insight into the business opportunities in the region as well as the cultural and historic heritage of the municipalities.

In Ogre, the ambassadors visited the manufacturing facilities of AS HansaMatrix, a Latvian electronic company, which specialises in the development, design and manufacturing of electronic systems. At Ķegums Hydropower Plant, the visitors saw its Energy Museum, and in Lielvārde, they visited the museum of the poet Andrejs Pumpurs.

In Jēkabpils, the diplomats got acquainted with the work of the municipality and visited Jēkabpils State Gymnasium The trip concluded with a visit to Krustpils Castle.

Each year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs arranges a trip for foreign ambassadors to a particular Latvian region. Last year, ambassadors had the opportunity to explore Kurzeme, and before that, the regions of Vidzeme and Latgale.

Rīga hosts 38 resident embassies and 13 international organisations and their representations; in addition, there are also 94 non-resident embassies accredited to Latvia.
