On October 6, her 100th birthday, the astronomer, physics researcher and scientist emeritus Ilga Daube went to vote in the 13th Saeima election.

She cast her vote at the Rīga 41st Secondary School and was greeted with flowers.

Ilga Daube, born on October 6, 1918, is about a month older than the Latvian state. She told Latvian Radio that she has voted in every election she could and that she feels very special today.

"I always want our political workers to be honest and not to think of their own or their party interests as much..I follow politics and newspapers and have my own opinion of these people. What do I treasure the most among politicians? It's mostly honesty," she said.
