The extent to which the state will be able to help the victims of the storm will be assessed by the government after the extent of the damage has been identified, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (New Unity) said at the meeting of the government on Tuesday, August 8.

Kariņš expressed sympathy for all those who suffered in Monday's storms.

The PM said that the Ministries of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Interior and Agriculture are working together to identify the damage caused by Monday's storm. Kariņš noted that after identifying the losses, the government would offer a “suitable solution.”

“I think it is a certain reminder to all of us in the country that climate change is happening not only in Greece and Spain. (..) Extreme weather conditions may also affect us,” the Prime Minister noted.
