Future coalition should be clear by mid-August: Kariņš, Rinkēvičs

Until mid-August there is time to work out in what composition the government will continue work, President Edgars Rinkēvičs and Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš said after a meeting on July 14.

“For the time being, work is continuing. I do not see the need to be involved in this process in any way. I am counting on politicians to continue negotiations, conduct consultations, and we will come to a solution that will be good for the country,” the president said.

“At the moment, I'm not going to start running ahead of the events not to ruin the potential surprise effect,” Rinkēvičs said.

Kariņš also confirmed that his schedule was in line with that of Rinkēvičs. “By the end of August, there will be clarity on how the work will continue. The government is very stable,” Kariņš said.

The president added that mid-August has not been chosen randomly for coalition-building talks as it is the beginning of the budget drafting when ministers have to present their proposals.
